Alumni Certification Overview
The GICH Alumni Certification designation is valid for two years. Upon graduation from the GICH program, communities automatically receive alumni certification status. Recertification is required two full years after graduation.
For example:
Communities that graduated in 2024 are not required to submit a certification application until 2027.
Key Changes to the Application Process
Several important changes have been made to the alumni certification requirements. All alumni communities should carefully review the updated application materials.
New requirements include:
Communities must now reapply every year, rather than every other year.
Teams must submit proof of two team meetings per year, instead of one.
At least one of the two meetings must include discussion of the community’s housing plan.
The previous requirement for non-GICH housing continuing education has been removed.
Additional details regarding these updates are outlined directly in the application materials. A PowerPoint presentation explaining the changes is also available for review.

Why Alumni Certification Matters
Maintaining GICH Alumni Certification demonstrates a continued commitment to housing planning, local collaboration, and long-term community improvement. Certified alumni communities remain well-positioned for housing-related funding opportunities and statewide recognition for sustained housing efforts.
Communities are encouraged to begin preparing documentation early to ensure a timely and complete submission.
