The Southwest Georgia Regional Commission (SWGRC) welcomed 12 participants on Friday, August 14, for a full-day Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Certification Training at the SWGRC office in Camilla.



The training was led by Chuck Griffith of T&C Safety Training Institute, LLC, a certified EPA and Georgia EPD RRP trainer with more than 40 years of experience in the construction industry.

Throughout the day, participants learned about lead-based paint safety, EPA, HUD, and Georgia EPD regulations, and proper procedures for working safely in homes where lead-based paint may be present. Training topics included setting up and cleaning work areas, safe work practices, lead-waste disposal, and required documentation.

RRP certification is especially important for contractors interested in participating in housing rehabilitation programs. Contractors working on residential housing built before 1978 are required to be lead certified, and RRP certification is required for qualified contractors participating in the CHIP Housing Rehabilitation Grant Program.

SWGRC appreciates everyone who participated in today’s training and took the opportunity to strengthen their skills, earn an important certification, and help support safe housing rehabilitation throughout Southwest Georgia.
