Local governments considering a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application in the upcoming funding cycle should mark their calendars for the 2026 Georgia Department of Community Affairs CDBG Summit, scheduled for September 28–October 1, 2026, in Valdosta.
The annual Summit provides valuable information for both current CDBG recipients and communities preparing future applications. Sessions will provide guidance on application development, eligible projects, program requirements, compliance, and strategies for developing stronger CDBG projects.
Communities considering a CDBG application for the upcoming year are strongly encouraged to attend. In recent funding cycles, DCA has awarded bonus points to applicants whose local-government staff attended designated Summit sessions, making attendance an important part of preparing a competitive application.
- Recipients (Required for 2026 Awardees):
- Monday, September 28 - Recipient Overview
- Tuesday, September 29 - Compliance
- Applicants (Required for Bonus Points):
- Tuesday, September 29 - Compliance
- Wednesday, September 30 - Application Development
- Thursday, October 1 - Housing (Optional)
The Summit is also an excellent opportunity for communities to begin discussing potential projects with DCA staff before the application period begins. Communities should start identifying needs now, particularly projects involving water and sewer infrastructure, streets and drainage, public facilities, neighborhood revitalization, and housing.
Communities interested in pursuing CDBG funding are encouraged to register early and begin identifying potential projects before the Summit.
For additional information or assistance with CDBG project development, please contact the Southwest Georgia Regional Commission.
