Thomasville Receives $1 Million CDBG Grant for New Domestic Violence Shelter

The Southwest Georgia Regional Commission (SWGRC) is proud to have assisted with grant administration for a $1 million Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) awarded to the City of Thomasville to support construction of a new domestic violence shelter for Halcyon Home, Inc.

The funding, awarded through the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA), will help expand critical services for survivors of domestic violence throughout Southwest Georgia. Thomasville was among 42 Georgia communities selected to receive CDBG funding in 2026.

Expanding Support for Survivors

Halcyon Home provides shelter, assistance, and support services to survivors of domestic violence in Thomas, Grady, Decatur, Mitchell, and Seminole counties.

The planned facility will provide additional residential space, administrative offices, and room for future expansion. The project is expected to benefit approximately 3,137 individuals, all of whom are presumed to be of low-to-moderate income.

The new shelter represents an important investment in the safety and well-being of individuals and families across the region, helping ensure that survivors have access to a secure environment and the resources needed to rebuild their lives.

Regional Collaboration Makes a Difference

The City of Thomasville served as the grant applicant, partnering with Halcyon Home and the Southwest Georgia Regional Commission to support the project.

SWGRC assisted with grant administration, contributing to the collaborative effort to secure and manage funding for this much-needed facility.

The project demonstrates the importance of partnerships among local governments, regional organizations, and nonprofit service providers in addressing critical community needs.

SWGRC remains committed to helping communities throughout Southwest Georgia access funding opportunities, strengthen essential services, and improve quality of life for residents.
