Decatur Comprehensive Plan Update Invites Community Participation
The future of Decatur County is being shaped, and community members are invited to be part of the conversation.
The Southwest Georgia Regional Commission (SWGRC) is partnering with Decatur County and the Cities of Attapulgus, Brinson, and Climax to develop the 10-Year Comprehensive Plan Update. This long-range plan will help guide decisions on housing, economic development, transportation, parks, infrastructure, public services, and other community priorities for years to come.
Public input is one of the most important parts of the planning process. Residents, business owners, and community stakeholders are encouraged to attend a public meeting, complete the community survey, and consider serving on the Steering Committee. Every comment and idea helps create a plan that reflects the needs and vision of the people who live and work in the community.

The planning process follows nine key steps, beginning with community engagement and data collection before moving into plan development, public review, adoption, and implementation. Throughout the process, community feedback helps shape the goals, policies, and projects that will guide future growth and investment.
Residents who are unable to attend a meeting are encouraged to participate by completing the community survey, which takes about five minutes to complete and is open to everyone. Survey responses will help identify community strengths, priorities, and opportunities for the future.
Together, community members can help create a shared vision for a stronger, more vibrant Decatur County and its municipalities.
