Gary D. Nelson is President of the Healthcare Georgia Foundation, Inc., a private independent foundation in Atlanta, Georgia. Appointed in 2002, Dr. Nelson is responsible for executive management of the Foundation’s program, financial, and management operations. Working with the Foundation’s Board of Directors, Dr. Nelson oversees the Foundation’s grantmaking program dedicated to advancing the health of all Georgians and expanding access to affordable, quality healthcare for underserved individuals and communities. Healthcare Georgia Foundation, Inc. was established in 1999 with an annual grantmaking program of approximately $4-5 million strategically allocated to: 1) protecting and promoting the health of individuals, families, and communities; 2) improving the availability, quality, appropriateness, and financing of healthcare services; and 3) integrating and coordinating efforts to improve health and healthcare services. As a catalyst for better health and health care the Foundation supports organizations that drive positive change; promotes programs that improve health, and connects people, programs and resources across Georgia.
